Choose an issue for your position paper. Make it something relevant to your life or a community you are a part of. Here are some questions to help you-- you need to be able to answer yes to most or all of these. Is this an issue that has been not been resolved or settled? Does this issue inspire two or more views? Are you willing to consider a position different from your own and perhaps modify your own views on this issue? Are you sufficiently interested and engaged with this issue to inspire your audience to become interested in it as well? Is this issue significant enough to be worth your time? Is this a safe issue for you? Not too risky? Will you be able to establish common ground with your audience on this issue? Can you eventually come to a clear and limited focus on this issue?
